I'd be cool with a single column version near the coat closet and shoe rack. That would be killer to have a dozen pairs at the ready, not stored in a cabinet like I do now.

Maybe because people want to protect their collection/investment. And it also is a good way of preventing too much dust on your stuff so less cleaning.
