It's more than that. Casting is an expensive inefficient process. The epa regulations make it difficult to operate. It's just not worth it to make them in their eyes.

Actually I don't think Oakley really has a grail. They've been pretty spaced out for a long time and even HQ, while very cool, doesn't really offer much that the collector market doesn't already have.

Oakley needs a legit museum or something. At the very least something they could make a training video with to educate little Johny Suckadick about the history of the brand and about not cleaning my 10+ year old lenses with some scummy microbag.
 
Now that's a collectible for the Big Boys...
