Crate Mars

Batwolf, I think I have the answers to some of your questions... I figured I had bought a pair from her, I might as well ask the questions we all want to know...

Qouted from our ebay messages:

Dear eyeframesman,
First of all, thanks for the Mars you sold me. The lenses seem a little bit foggy. They look clear when you look through them at a distance, but in bright outdoor light, they seem a little foggy. All of my current pairs of Oakleys are rather new, and don't have this issue.

I'm really curious, how many pairs of Mars did you buy? Did you buy the "found crate" from Oakley? http://www.freshnessmag.com/2010/08/19/oakley-x-metal-mars-sunglasses/

Will these be available for a while, or is the surplus starting to run low? I would like to know, because I really need to get another pair so I can do some customizations to a pair.

Also, none of these have a coin or a box? That would be most awesome to score a box and coin.

Thanks!!!

Dear beancooker,

Remember that this product was manufactured before 1998 which makes them 15 years old. I don't know if Oakleys lens material degrades over time or not. The quality of lenses today may also be better than they were then. I would say it would have more to do with their coatings than with the lenses. I bought all of this product 7 years ago and had sealed product and unsealed product that was for display. I sold out all of the sealed product first in the first 3 years. All gone. What I am selling now is what is left. I still have about 300 pair, so I will still be selling for a while.

Thanks Beancooker. I have never seen a pair of Mars in person to do any kind of comparison but in your opinion is the answer she gives for the foggy lenses acceptable to you? Have you been able to remove or clean off all of the film you say is on the lens? Thanks

My guess is that there might just be a film on the lenses from sitting unsealed for so long. A thorough wash with warm soap and water should solve the issue.

Damn 300 pairs left? That's straight up insane.

The film on the lenses... It's not bad. I washed them three or four times with Dawn soap and warm water. I also tried using the hydrophobic cleaner/coating. This improved it a little bit. It is only noticeable in bright sunlight, when looking toward the bright light.
They do not have the same clarity when looking into bright light, as my ruby Juliet's. however it is completely acceptable. I'm just a picky person, and want perfection.

300 pairs left... That means she started with a lt more than 300 pairs. Competely insane. Not to mention they are sub 10000 in serial numbers.

Don't use Dawn... Dawn is a harsh soap intended to remove grease from plates. Oakley recommends a mild hand soap and warm water.

Mild hand soap or natural dish soap works best.

Personally it just sounds like a little buildup from being in storage for so long unsealed. If you are concerned with this "film" you could always just go with the blank frame she sells and put your choice of lenses in there.

If anyone was considering that I'd pay the extra $30 just to have a set of replacement lenses around.
