Mine never worked so I gutted it as well.

There is a ballast for the fluorescent bulbs that light the sign and transformer that powers the LED or halogen bulbs for display. Home depot sells both for under $15

Forgive my ignorance, but do you have a link to the specific items needed?

Not sure about the ballast as I haven't had to change one yet but this is the one for the LED or halogens.
