Ok I just bought a Western Digital MyBook Essential External Harddrive, I can't seem to find a decent answer anywhere, thought i would try you guys and see if you could help.
My question is, would it hurt the hdd to stay on all the time? Apparently this thing has a sleep/ECO mode. Its going to be located in an area that isn't easy to get to to turn off and on.

Its also going to be in a well ventilated area as well.

I have kept mine running for 6 years. When the drive is not in use it powers down till required. Spins right up on demand and ready for use.

WHat Ecko said. Should be fine. At work we are a 24/7 operation and share workstations and these are on ALLLL the time and rarely crash. WD makes a good HD but in case you are worried, make sure and have a backup in place for all your data and media.
