Wow, didn't expect the grid to look like that after qualifying today. Well pleased McLaren locked out the front row but surprised Red Bull didn't even look like competing for pole. Great lap from Lewis but just as good a lap from Jenson, only 1 tenth of a second off even though qualifying has never been his major forte. Hopefully it's a good race between Lewis and Jenson tomorrow (Sunday), I'd like to see Jenson nick it, maybe by running a little longer than Lewis because he's easier on the tyres.

As for Ferrari - oops. At least Alonso still reps with the Oakleys:

Bad bit of judgement from Raikkonen in qualifying cost him. He spent the rest of the afternoon in shorts and Dispatches watching the others go round!

Lewis didn't even look like he was trying..his ego showed on the 2nd when he miss timed the corner but other than that..fantastic first day all arround...how about grosjean in third? didn't see that coming at all..before today I wouldn't of even mentioned lotus in a formula 1 conversation...schumacher was a surprise aswell but the mercedes does look good...can't wait to check out the formula 1 app I got for iPad, was at work today so couldn't see how well it worked..gps tracking of all cars with a real time view of the track (supposedly) cant wait.lol

Same here... I'm just glad he came back!

His EPIC battle with Hamilton in Italy last year was some of the best racing I've seen in years!
That is definite proof that Schumi still has "IT", and put into a capable competitive car, (red bull or McLaren) We would see at the very least, him battling for podium's, if not a victory or two. Last season at Spa, He certainly had a great finish in hand if it werent for his qualifying woe's that once again hampered his success at that Belgium GP. Spa is one of his best tracks so im very excited to see how the new Merc W03 will perform at SPa this season, hopefully he'll finally have a decent qualifying attempt this season.
Eric Bouliler of Lotus is wanting to ask FIA to look at Mercedes new rear wing f-duct device, with Eric arguing that without DRS, this is a driver operated f-duct system and thus illegal, but its been cleared and declared legal.
I think Eric should worry about Kimi getting back into F1 speed and Romain about his P3 qualifying spot.

Hell yeah Kimi rockin' the Dispatch. :D

jk-27, how do you feel about the new platypus noses this season? McLaren and Marussia bypassing that option with a sleeker nose design. It'll be great to see how that ends up for them. I read in 2014, these stepped noses will hopefully not be around.

Kobayashi a bit tail happy.

Im a big Kobayashi fan. I really hope he gets a seat in a much better team.

I don't think the cars with the step noses look that bad. There's a lot of debate about whether it is better to have a high nose tip (and therefore a need for the step) so there's more space under the front for air to flow, or a lower nose and no step and, based on today, you have to say the difference in terms of performance isn't that great. But yeah, under the 2014 rules there won't be a need for a step nose but I read the other day the FIA may consider a rule change for 2013 to do away with the step nose anyway.

Great race by Button, he was simply faster than Hamilton today. Vettel got lucky with the safety car IMHO and, without that, I think it would of been a McLaren 1-2, and a well deserved one at that. Ferrari, at least Alonso, were a surprise. More proof Alonso really is a top class driver. If I was Ferrari I'd give Massa another couple of races to see if he can improve otherwise you might as well replace him, he's so far off Alonso.

IF the Malaysian P1 is any sign, than looks like Ferrari is in for a long long season...
sounds like Nico Rosberg's Merc is overheating, typical ****ty Mercedes engine issues, they doomed McLaren in the past.

Well, Alonso improved in P2, but Massa was still way back. Unfortunately, ever since his accident in Hungary a few years ago, Massa just hasn't been the same. I think he's now totally lost it mentally too, he knows his time at Ferrari is coming to an end and mentally he's left already.

Hamilton is probably a little bit more fired up having lost in Australia, hence the face practice times.
