Yeah peripheral isn't the greatest. I use them only from time to time only on road biking since you don't have to stop and you can avoid a waterfall of sweat going into your eyes. As for the picture, it's a time trial bike so he doesn't have to worry about opponents, peripheral vision and basically anything which isn't in front of him
