First X-Metal Questions

Kaduku

Oakley Beginner
Hello everyone, I'm seriously considering getting my first pair of X-Metals (X Squared), but I have a couple questions because I want to cover some things before I drop that much money.

Is there anything I should be aware of when it comes to X-Metals?
-Proper Care?
-Proper way to put them on? (they scratch the side of my head if I try the 1h put on)
-Finish problems (I want the xmetal or carbon)
-Durability
-They friendly if water touches them
-Also if I get them on ebay what should I look out for?

I'm kinda new when it comes to x-metal frames but I want some variety besides my o-matter frames haha

Thanks

I notice with carbon frame it will pick up fingerprints in the frame but they are very durable. Lenses should all be hydrophobic so no water problems but make sure to keep them clean as good measure. I recommend ebay, prices seem to be a little higher than $250 for new or newish pairs, retail pricing is absurd. Just make sure t find a reputable seller. Good luck!

Care for them like you would any other pair...

-Proper way to put them on? (they scratch the side of my head if I try the 1h put on)
Every Xmetal I have owned (I currently have 22 pairs) will do this if your head is wide. Thus we have a tendency to pull the temples in the outward direction which cause the nosebridge to flex. Over a period of time the nose bridge loosens up. The Xsquared can be tightened at home were other models are sent in.

-Finish problems (I want the xmetal or carbon)
The XMetal finish will withstand any fingerprint marks, and just like MSneis said the carbon picks up oil marks and prints quicker. They can be wiped off.

-Durability
Depends on what you plan on doing with them or to them... LOL

-They friendly if water touches them
No issues here but I wouldn't wear them in the ocean...... You could loose em real quick.....

-Also if I get them on ebay what should I look out for?
There are some Xmetal fakes out there, if you find a pair post your find and let us have a look. Some of the fakes going around are easy to spot. I actually found a pair that were quite questionable till I was able to review all the pix, and found they were replicas. Also check the feedback for the seller, see if they sell Oakley or at the very least are knowledgible about what they bought. Ask for more pix, etc. There are alot of excellent sellers that deal in Xmetals, let us know....

X-Metals are my favorite. I currently own 27 pairs and wear a pair just about every day. I have at least one pair of every model type. I have never broken one. I have scratched many lenses and have had Oakley rebuild several nose bridges and replace a ton of rubber pieces over the years. I think that they are way more durable than any other o matter glasses in my experience.

The great thing is that if you replace the lenses and rubber, and tighten a few screws, they will be practically new again. Most models have a nose bridge that loosens over time, so be careful if you are buying used. They can be fixed easily, but Oakley must do it. I wear all models and Romeo 1’s are my favorite. They are getting hard to find at a good price, but I have a large head and they fit me well. My second favorite is the Juliet. Can’t go wrong here. They are extremely comfortable and I don’t think there will ever be a shortage of parts or lens options. Many of my pairs are over 10 years old, and can almost pass for new. The newer ones are not my favorites but maybe I am biased.

The only draw back with the entire line is that they are rigid. They will not fit under a helmet if you do any activity that requires it. When I ride my motorcycle, I usually wear my frogskins under the helmet as the metals wont fit.

For what its worth I say get them!

Good luck

xmetalmaniac's right! fake x metals are out there! So you really need to be extra careful when buying your first x metal. here are some of pics of replica x metal. I included pit boss because this bothers me a lot, since im planning to get one pair of it.

Goodluck!

Holy Crap the replicas have gotten better and better. I have seen so many fake Pit bosses on ebay. Or at least they look fake to me due to the lense and frame combo that is being offered. What amazes me is that people are freaking bidding on fake ones
