Giving Someone Glasses With A Scratched Lens...

So I have a pair of Fives 2.0, and I don't wear them unless I am doing yard work. They have some significant scratches as far as i am concerned. The lenses are not aesthetically pleasing, but not terrible. The scratches do not affect optic quality whatsoever, they are just as good today as the day they were new.
A guy that works for me, wears some dollar store glasses, literally. Since I don't wear these often, and I have some flaks I can wear for yard work, is it wrong to give these to him? They are way better than what he is currently wearing, but they are also the only pair I am willing to give away. I feel kind of bad giving someone something that is not in mint condition, but it also seems like quite an upgrade. What do you think, should I give them to him, or not?

If I was wearing dollar store glasses and someone gave me Oakley's I would be grateful. Just state that they are used but you figured he could enjoy them more than you. :)

eh, why not continue using them as beaters instead of subjecting your Flaks to scratches?

May sound selfish, but ime when I gift something of a nice upgrade to people, most break it or lose it - like they never really cared, and it leaves me a bit offended as I could've gone to ebay or something. Maybe that'd explain why they never bought the premium item in the first place. Also figure if say, a "vase specialist" (yeah, random example) gave me a really nice vase they didn't need, I wouldn't break it, but not necessarily wholeheartedly enjoy it more than whatever cheap vase I may have.

technically you're doing the guy a bit of a service with better functional eyewear. If you really don't care at all what happens to the Fives then I say go ahead.

good on you to be thinking about the visuals of the other guy, but i agree with ventruck. some people wear cheap stuff due to the fact that they do not want to feel bad when they loose stuff, which may happen to them most of the time. i personally hate giving gifts, but whenever i do, i make sure that the person i am giving them to will appreciate what i give them. how will i know this? i really go out of my way to find out what they want. or at the very least, i give something i am sure I will make use of as well. point being...you have a good heart for the gesture. but try to find out if he would want them. if not, at least you would not feel bad....

Or (this is a rare instance) the guy could be offended for you offering glasses to him. Probably wouldn't happen but there are some people like that out there.

He could also turn right around and sell them LOL.

My buddy gave me his old oakleys that were beat to hell and the iridium was lifting off. It wad my first pair and I was so excited to finally have a pair of Oakleys.

I think he would buy himself a nice pair, but I am fairly certain he can't afford to.
So I plan to give him the glasses anyways. I don't wear them that often, and he could benefit from them. I he loses them, sells them on eBay, or whatever, it's all fine. They're his to do with as he pleases.

props that is a pretty cool thing to do, your paying it forward too.
you might feed his addiction, and one day he might do the same for someone else.
