Locking Down The Forum

I too enjoy reading the opinions of members on this forum. It gives me a little insight as to how they stand on this discussion. Everyone has a valid point to make and with all of these points we will be able to come up with a way to handle this.

I have noticed a few new members coming into the forum and their first post after registering is in the exchange section. If they were into Oakley's and knew anything about the going rate of certain models then they wouldn't post their item for sale at some ridiculus price. Hypothetically, a member lists a pair of EUC plasma/ice, non polarized Juliet's for $275.00 with box, no serial number, plus shipping. Educated members know this is too high and will pass it buy. The thread goes for weeks unanswered, and the poster never checks back or ever posts again. I have also seen members post stuff, then make comments in their post that they dont come on here and to email them at the provided email address to speak with them about it. Its almost like they use the exchange section as something of a personal sale ad for them, circumventing Ebay or other auction/sale sites. This does not go to say that what members PM each other selling stuff is there business, and if the price is too high or they can't make a deal then so be it. I don't care if members use the info on here to help them sell their stuff on Ebay, good for them!!

Do you think there should be a timeline before users are able to post in the exchange section? Loads of guys signing up just to sell. Wouldnt it be "saver" if we knew them abit longer?

Yeah I don't see the benefit of our forum becoming Craigslist Jr. Our for sale forum is geared more toward helping each other out and not for random guys to stop in and try to gouge people.

Here we go..... Like I said people register on this site, then go and start selling. A new member just registered, starts thorwing stuff up telling what they paid for it with no asking price. Mods tell the seller they need to list a price for the items and their response is they were not aware they had too..... Now if they read the forum rules then VIOLA' they would have known. They are more interested in selling their stuff off then reading what needs to be done. Sure I will buy it.... Way below market value!!!

In all honesty, 99% of people don't read the fine print. I know I tripped up as I wasn't aware of the rule about not posting eBay links. I never thought about posting eBay links as a cause for an issue. We allow them on our boards and never had an issue. But other than that, most message board rules all fall back on the common denominator: use your common sense and be polite.

As for the people not reading the rules thing, I've been at the other board for seven years and not a single day goes by where I have to deal with someone who didn't read the rules. But most of those times it's due to the member being an absolute idiot like posting links to porn or something.

Ok, maybe i am looking at this from the wrong angle. I have been reviewing numerous for sale threads in the X Metal section. (see my above post #41) and several members just list stuff and leave. I know that we as collectors and enthusiats will scrutinize everything about a listing to make sure its legit. But what if we get something just one time and we get taken. They post pix that look good from all angles then send us junk. Yes we can use Paypal, list on Ebay etc. But what if???? We are always hunting down deals, but is it worth it. At least with ebay and Paypal we can possibley get our money back.

Sure, a craigslist seller we can meet in a public spot, look the item over and then pay them. You can even bring some friends too just to make sure everyone is on the up and up.

Maybe we should just sit back and see what happens...

The most you can do is just warn people. If they want to pay for a sketchy transaction with anything other than a service that doesn't offer protection, then it's on the buyer. Staff can only do so much.

I guess we just sit back and hope a few small changes make the best of it...

I personally don't see the harm in making a newbie wait to hit a certain amount of posts before he or she could sell. I'd rather go that route than to have a bunch of people sign up post something for sale at a ricockulous price with clear intentions to scalp.

Having a post count requirement may deter many a scalper to join up here.

I agree but 25 posts of " nice pair of shades" is not going to cut it. Mabe we should have admins unlock the privledge of selling after reviewing their postings?
