I've only tried them in the car while driving home today. Not sure how i feel about them yet. How dark and how light are they supposed to get?

Transitions will not work while you're in the car, since the car windshield is coated against UV.
Also, the outer iridium coating will not change in darkness, the Ruby color will always be consistent from the outside, only the inner layer will change in darkness. I can't really tell u how light or dark it gets, but i just love the seamless / consistent feel of it when moving between indoors and outdoors.
When i first got them... i felt the same way as you. But trust me, it'll soon grow on u...

they used to come with a special vault that had a metal id plate on it..
