I haven't been around in a few days. It was time for the annual Labatt Blue UP Pond Hockey Championship that a few friends and I go to every year. There are some all over the northern states, and I'm sure a ton in Canada, but this one is in St Ignace, Michigan.
It's a big event, starting early Thursday and running through Sunday afternoon. We got into town late Thursday and proceeded to drink until about 3am Sunday. Good times.
But the hockey is played on Moran Bay, which is part of Lake Huron, one of the Great Lakes. There's a beer/food/music tent on the ice and a few dozen rinks setup, along with ice bowling and a few other activities. As well as a Red Wings alumni game, free shuttle service between the rinks, bars, casino, and hotels noon-3am every day, drink specials, some free beer and swag, etc.
Out on the lake is a fun time, and there are a lot of Oakleys being worn! This is my third year and I've noticed a big transition from Half and Flak Jackets to more Frogskin/Jupiter/Holbrook styles.
I ended up going with my OO Red Polarized Tens, because it was changing from snow to sun to clouds pretty frequently all weekend. I had brought 5 pairs, and only switched to my BIP Inmates for the drive home.
A gentleman in Juliets trying to snap a stick. Plasma/Ice?
My footwear of choice. Boots for around town, and insulated for on the ice
My setup for walking around outside. Temps were around 0-10 degrees F (-17-12 C) with high winds at times. Max windchill was -15 F (-26 C)
Lunch for 3 of us between games Friday. $2 pitchers of Labatt.
