Problem solved!

Yeah, I've been looking at harmonies for years, since back when IR & RF were the only options (glad they now have wi-fi and bluetooth, too). Just haven't been willing to pull the trigger, and not thrilled with the adapter you have to stick on devices that can only accept IR signals in order to use a non-IR controller with them.

But my Fire TV box has a bluetooth remote (and I can also control it via wi-fi from my tablet) and that's pretty awesome...
