Painted Romeo Frame

is there any way we can find out firsthand...i.e Jim or Colin.....somebody has to know for sure. If plasma was just a blast.....then what is it that is peeling away during a sandblast?????
ill try to do a an in process picture to prove what im talking about. Lets all get together and find out how this was done. Maybe email Hans and ask him.in the video it shows the individual parts being tumbled after casting then deburred then assembled.what is the coating process........whos got the skills to find this question out once and for all...winner takes all.and answers from vault employees don't count.

See I say that the newest plasma finish ie 3rd gen plasma on an XMXX is just a blast finish because I've never had anything "peel" away from it. I also didn't have anything peel away from my 2nd gen titanium penny.

As far as X-Metal is concerned, I've never had it "peel away" either. I've duplicated X-Metal exactly with blast media...and I mean exactly. This is also why you'll notice some older X-metal frames take on a slight "browning" of the grey...that's titanium oxidation.

As far as 1st gen plasma and 1st gen titanium go...they're "coatings" in a sense but I feel they're nothing more than a matte clear coat to prevent further oxidation of the titanium. I've blasted finishes that look exactly like 1st gen plasma and 1st gen titanium...the matte bone finishes that people talk about...but over a couple months they have darkened slightly due to the titanium oxidizing.

only plasma will peel away, the reason I think x-metal is dipped in some kind of finish is deep inside the screw holes and inside the nose bridge are all the same color, if it were merely blasted there would be a lighter finish inside where the media wouldn't reach.and I found hans moritz on facebook

What the Oakley process for xmetal is! No idea. Def a coating, not sure what kind and how it is bonded to the titanium. I do know you can easily polish it off with the right tools and it can and has been replicated by the xman and by machinehead. The question is, is the replicated finish as good as or better/worse than OEM? Dont know that either :) hehehe ummmfor a thread resurected from the depths of 2/2012 what i really want to know is if the romeo is still available for $310. I live 20 min away from davis OP... HMU!

There is no way that a pair of R1s would be selling for $310! No way! LOL

So basically to sum up this debate: THERE IS NO WAY THAT I CAN GET MY R1s PAINTED THE POLISHED CHROME SILVER, RIGHT? I am ready to accept this defeat and move on with my dream being crushed. Once again, much appreciation to all of you for going over in such detail about which colors were made for the R1s (3).
