    any chance of seeing whats actually inside the spring hinge? no problems if you haven't got one disassembled - just curious

    It's a "T" shaped piece of metal (copper?) with a rounded top to allow the metal to slide along it. The spring fits at the end of it in the spring hole. It can be a real challenge to get hinges back together because of this spring setup.
