Weather shouldn't dictate bullet weight consideration (in this application), only penetration (IB Frank TWSS) regardless of time of year. Same bullet weight year round here, 0 to 120. Besides if you can only see their head, between the eyes it is...Can't go wrong with a Glock 27. I went for my PPS in .40 today. I carry a heavier bullet when winter comes around and bad guys wear more layers of clothing.View attachment 289175
For a budget sight, it is spot on.Nice! BSA is really not that bad....love how they package their optics to come in mini ammo cans.
5.56 it is!Ummm.......heavier bullets do not really penetrate deeper. For example, a 9mm bullet is FAR lighter than a .45acp bullet. But here are some test results.
BULLET PENETRATION - INCHES OF PLYWOOD (test blocks made up of half inch
boards)
9mm Parabellum Inches
123 grain FMJ 4.4"
115 grain JHP +P+ 3.0"
115 grain JHP 2.7"
115 grain Silvertip 2.5"
80 grain Glaser 2.0"
.45 ACP Inches
230 grain FMJ 2.8"
200 grain JHP 2.4"
185 grain JHP 2.4"
185 grain Silvertip 1.7"
135 grain Glaser 1.3"
So....come winter, you might actually want a round that flies lighter and much faster. If you really want to talk about penetration (aka car doors) you should be looking at .357 or .44.....10mm might get the job done if you have the right loads.
Otherwise....just carry and use what you are most accurate and effective with.
