You are correct about the damaging your eyes, it would not likely do any permanent damage for those lengths of time. However the view shown is what what your eyes are seeing, and having to correct for constantly. Especially at the prices paid for some of the aftermarket lenses, it is well worth the extra to have the color cut for you from Oakley lenses, so your eyes don't have this issue and can see correctly. Even Oaks are not the best out there, but they are pretty good.
