Serial numbers

Question - Is there really much point to the serial numbers on the arms of juliets? As after 200? (Someone will know the year) they stopped or didn't number all the Juliet arms (I think)

From 1999 to end of 2004, with serial number (1st through 3rd gens)
from 2005 to 2008, no serial number (4th gen)
from 2008 to discontinuation in 2012, with SKU and frame size (5th gen)

It was a nice individual touch to each frame, denoting the original frame/lens combination and made each piece unique. This has been an important factor in collecting for most, in that identification has been made possible for each piece and its belonging to the original box in which it was sold.

Two weeks ago, I bought a new in box sealed Oakley Half X Metal - Polished VR28 - 04-142-A05099 but they do not have serial numbers on the arms. Do all Oakley Half X Metal have serial number on the arms?
I would appreciate your help.

Those are year of manufacture but do remember these weren't always an easy sell at the time - plenty of them sat around on retailers' shelves for years before moving, hard as that might be to picture nowadays.

Yup - Half-X wasn't released until 2008, well after the serial era.

Always prefer a serial over a non serial.
