TEN YEARS AGO TODAY...

How about some love for John Lennon? 30 years ago today, shot dead in NYC... As talented as Pantera is, they couldn't shine Lennon's shoes.

Okay it's all personal opinion but not shine Lennon's shoes? I don't know about that man and believe me I'm not here to start a music war with you, I have the utmost respect for John Lennon but he is not my generation, where Pantera is so that is why I made this thread for Dimebag.

"Hollow" was always one that particularly stuck with me. The emotion of the lyrics, talking about his vegged-out friend. The way it really thrashes when it starts to rage.

Some years after it originally was released, my dad had one of his friends veg-out after a stroke. I sent him the lyrics. My Elvis-era father connected with them, was appreciative. Then he listened to the actual music lol...

What's left inside him?
Does he remember us?
Can he even see me?
We felt like brothers...

Talked for hours last month
About what we wanna be
Now I sit here with his hand in mine
And I know he can't feel

No one knows
what's done is done
it's as if he were dead

I'm close with his mother
And she cries endlessly
Lord, how we miss him
At least what's remembered

It's so important
To make best friends in life
But it's hard when my friend
Sits with blank expression

No one knows
What's done is done
It's as if he were dead

He is hollow as I am alone now
He is hollow as I am alone now
He is hollow as I am alone now

He is hollow
As I alone
A shell of my friend
Just flesh and bone

There's no soul
He feels no love
I shake my fist
At skies above

Mad at God
Mad

He is hollow
As I converse
I wish he'd waken
From this curse

Hear my words
Before they're true
I want to come in
After you

My best friend
My best friend

Come back...

[Sorry if I messed any of that up; it was completely from memory, I didn't double-check anything...]

I was listening to Pantera this morning when I was getting ready. My daughter was getting dressed and rockin out as well. Its kinda funny to listen to her sing Walk.... "are you talkin to me?"

He made this guitar shape famous, with the "x" body and a "v" at the end of the neck. Almost every local metal guitarist ive ever met or seen has/uses this style of guitar. Truly the "grooviest" metal guitarist ever. ROCK THE **** ON BROTHER

RIP
