They're VR28 lenses with a black iridium coating.

Pretty sure VR means VeRmilion, the color, which is like a Red/Rust/Orange color which probably what gives it the "brown" color.

VR28 Black Iridium is much darker. 12%? 10%? VR28 BIP is as dark as standard BIP. Or 1% darker, I can't recall.

I believe its 28% until the black iridium coating is added then it drops considerably. They are my favorite oakley lens

It's a VR28 base with a black iridium coating over the outside of the lens. It's gonna look brownish with a hint of a layer of black when looking from the front.
VR28 Black Iridium (original) or VR28 Black Iridium Polarized (only VR28 offered in the current Juliet Oakley replacement lens line-up).
Same as used in the JBR and Copper Penny.
