Yes, the rubber will start to tear apart, or start getting a slimy/sticky feel. I have a pair I wore casually very often for a few years and just now need new earsocks and nosebomb. I have another pair that I wore for sports safety glasses and needed new rubber after a summer of use.

I've had Flak and Radar earsocks that I frequently use and they haven't worn out yet, maybe because after each use, I wash and clean it. Unobtanium really works, I can smell the awful sweat left on the earsocks.

It is what Oakley calls their rubber. The ear socks and rubber nose pieces are "unobtanium".

It's also the mineral being mined in the movie Avatar
