Part of the Ahyris (pronounced Iris) Collection, and introduced in 2019, the Oakley Coldfuse shows that Oakley still has what it takes to shake up the world of sunglasses. And this collection of lifestyle designs has one defining feature — the frame is held together by one functional piece.

What is the Ahyris Collection?
Oakley’s Disruptive by Design campaign was introduced in 2014 as a way to push the industry forward and encourage innovation. Always on the cutting edge of design and technology, Oakley turned their inspiration into a mission.
The Ahyris Collection is part of that mission.
Featuring a variety of frames including the Apparition, Chrystl, Deadbolt, and more. Ahyris definitely brings super modern design to the public.

Frame and Design
The Oakley Coldfuse features a full-rimmed O matter and titanium frame that makes it feel a bit heavier than other lifestyle frames like the Gascan. But overall the frame still feels light and durable.
When you first look at the Coldfuse, there’s obviously a lot going on with the design.
To start this frame has rounded square lenses and a double bridge reminiscent of an aviator-style frame. Oakley calls this upper bridge piece a “roll bar”. It’s a nice design element but doesn’t actually add much to the frame.
The Unobtainium earstems add some grip to the frame but truthfully we didn’t notice them when wearing the Coldfuse. After all, this is a lifestyle frame and you won’t really be wearing them during any sports.
As a part of the Ahyris collection, there is also a hollow, round, forward-facing titanium piece at the temple that is styled after the human iris. Overall this is a pretty cool design element.
As we mentioned earlier the Coldfuse frame has 24 individual components held together by that single titanium temple piece. This is a pretty cool marketing gimmick but we’re not sure too many buyers really care.
Unlike new features like Switchlock or the adjustable Rake on the Kato, the single-piece design of the Coldfuse won’t persuade many buyers.

Lenses
When you first put on Coldfuse sunglasses you notice the no-wrap design, which means you don’t have much peripheral coverage. This isn’t too surprising for us since these are lifestyle sunglasses. But if you’re looking for coverage you’re better off with a frame like the Fuel Cell.
The Coldfuse lenses themselves are made of impact-resistant Plutonite material, which is standard for all new Oakleys. And every colorway of the Coldfuse features contrast-enhancing Prizm lenses.
We’ve already covered why we love Prizm lenses, but overall this technology helps to enhance contrast, optimize color and reduce glare.
Oakley has made a big push for Prizm lenses in lifestyle frames, and we’re all for it.
Plus the Coldfuse is available in a wide variety of Prizm colors including Ruby, Indigo, and Sapphire. Keep reading for a full breakdown of Coldfuse colorways.

Final Thoughts – Are They Worth it?
Overall we love the idea behind the Ahyris collection.
It’s about bringing back the days of true disruptive design. And because of that, we’re a fan of the Oakley Coldfuse.
Now whether that means we’ll be wearing them every day is a different story. But that’s not different from the disruptive OTT’s or Mars.
Ultimately if you’re looking for a modern unique frame the Coldfuse is a great option. But if you prefer a simpler design that works for everyday life, you’ll likely be better off with frames like the Gibston, or Manorburn.
Are Prescription Coldfuse Lenses Available?
Yes, Oakley prescription Coldfuse lenses are available through Oakley’s website or your local eye doctor. All you’ll need is a valid prescription to order. Plus if you order directly from Oakley you can buy prescription Prizm lenses.
For more information on options and ordering check out our full Oakley Prescription Sunglasses guide.
Are Replacement Coldfuse Lenses Available?
Currently Oakley does not sell replacement Coldfuse lenses. This unfortunately seems to be a trend with the latest Oakley released. But luckily you still have options.
You can find replacement Oakley Coldfuse lenses through various aftermarket suppliers. And these lenses are often 50%+ cheaper than lenses direct from Oakley. For a complete comparison of your top options, check out our Oakley replacement lens guide.
Where to Buy Oakley Coldfuse Sunglasses?
If you’re looking to buy Coldfuse sunglasses (Product Link) your first stop is likely Oakley’s website. But unless there’s a sale or you have a discount code from the MVP program you’re likely paying retail prices.
Unfortunately the Coldfuse is not as widely available at other retailers as some of Oakley’s other styles.
But you can find a good selection on aftermarket retailers such as eBay and the Oakley Forum Exchange Areas. And with a little bit of effort, you can often save 20-30% off retail prices.
