History and Background
The Oakley Drop Point sunglasses were added to the brand’s Lifestyle line in 2017, just in time for spring/summer. Anyone familiar with the Canteen will recognize this frame’s design. The company upgraded the once-popular frame, giving them an updated and more sophisticated look.
Let’s jump deeper into reviews about the specifics of these sunglasses.
Oakley Drop Point Sunglasses Review
Frame, Design, and Size
The Drop Point is a sporty frame with an 8.75 base wrap. With a frame width of 134mm, Oakley Drop Point sunglasses are designed to comfortably fit small and medium-sized faces.
Featuring a full rimmed design, the Drop Point sunglasses are an every day frame like the Gascan. A plain saddle bridge, combined with the rectangular lens frame provides a firm fit without being too tight. We found the overall coverage of the frame to be on par with the Holbrook. You definitely don’t have the full wrap around lens of a Radar or M frame, but for an everyday pair you’re definitely covered.
Constructed from Oakley proprietary O Matter frame material, the Drop Point sunglasses are lightweight. This nylon-based material is also stronger than acetate and still 25% lighter.
Lenses
Oakley Drop Point lenses measure 39mm in height, and 61mm wide. Constructed using several patented technologies, including Plutonite, these lenses block 100% of UVA, B and C.
Drop Point lenses are available in Standard, Prizm and Prizm Polarized options. We’ve already covered why we love Oakley’s contrast enhancing Prizm lenses, so be sure to check out our guide here. Oakley Drop Point Prizm options include some of our favorites like Sapphire, Maritime Polarized and Prizm Ruby among many others. Light transmission will vary based on the different Oakley Drop Prizm lenses you select.
You can also easily replace the lenses in the Drop Point which we’ll cover below.

Final Thoughts
Oakley Drop Point sunglasses are sporty and sophisticated, but the narrower design does make them best suited for small and mid-size faces. Larger guys may not get full coverage from bright light, and the frames can also pinch. However, with the right-sized face, Drop Point sunglasses are lightweight and incredibly comfortable to wear.
