History and Background
Introduced in 2011, Oakley Pit Bull sunglasses were another entry into Oakley’s line of frames designed to meet the needs of people with larger heads or faces. Like the Monster Dog and Monster Pup, the Pit Bull brought aggressive design and styling in a large frame.
While the Pit Bull hasn’t officially been discontinued, only currently the Asian fit version is sold directly from Oakley. Check out our complete guide to Oakley’s Asia/Asian fit for the differences.
Oakley Pit Bull Sunglasses Review
Frame and Design
The Oakley Pit Bull frame features a bold, light weight O Matter full rimmed frame. Overall these are a durable and comfortable pair perfect for larger heads. The Pit Bull also has Unobtainium earstems for additional grip. This means they sit on your nose and hug your face with curved ear stems, with a firm but gentle grip even when sweating.
One area we love on these sunglasses is the sculpturally integrated hinge and classic Oakley ear stems. Similar to how the Juliet’s earstems create the O logo when closed, it’s the little details that add up. This includes the metal Oakley icon featured on the earstems. On our pair of Oakley Pit Bull Polarized sunglasses we found ourselves loving these icons.
And while the Pit Bull shares a similar name with the awesomely expensive Oakley Pit Boss sunglasses they aren’t a part of the Elite line.
Size and Dimensions
As we mentioned the Pit Bull is a large frame and actually is bigger than the Monster Dog. We’ve got the complete dimensions below for your reference:
- Bridge Length: 15mm
- Lens Height: 38mm
- Lens Width: 63mm
- Temple Length: 135mm
Lenses
Like most other pairs, the Oakley Pit Bull lenses are made of the proprietary Plutonite material. This means they meet ANSI z87.1 standards for impact resistance and provide complete UV protection. This wrap lens is maximized for peripheral vision with an 8.75 base lens curvature.
The lenses were available in Standard, Iridium and Polarized coatings. Unfortunately Oakley’s contrast enhancing Prizm lenses were never released for this pair. However they still released with some awesome tints including OO Black Iridium, Deep Blue Polarized and Tungsten Iridium Polarized lenses.
If you’re looking for replacement lenses, you’ll want to check out aftermarket manufacturers. Most offer both standard, iridium and polarized lenses for the Oakley Pitbull sunglasses. There’s a number of suppliers out there so be sure to check out our complete guide on replacement lenses!

Where to Buy Oakley Pit Bull Sunglasses?
As we mentioned earlier, Oakley currently only sells the Asian fit version of the Pit Bull on their site. It’s likely this is their last effort at unloading the remaining inventory before the pair is gone forever. However that doesn’t mean you’re out of luck.
Our complete guide to buying discontinued Oakleys has you covered on your best aftermarket options. Including our own Oakley Exchange Areas where you can buy, sell and trade with thousands of other members!
Final Thoughts
The Pit Bull is an aggressive frame that we still love today. While designed with larger heads and faces in mind, buyers who wear regular-sized frames will still love these. If you’re looking for alternatives be sure to check out the Monster Dog, and Monster Pup.
