Oakley Target Line Goggles Review: Fun with Something Missing

Oakley Target Line Goggles are one of the oldest Oakley snow goggles, emphasizing the perfect fit with a low-profile look. But we wanted to see if years later these goggles still deliver!

Keep reading for our full Oakley Target Line review, plus everything to know about these goggles before you buy!

Oakley Target Line Goggles Review

For this review, we got our hands on a pair of Oakley Target Line M goggles with Fire Iridium lenses (Product Link). And while they are a great value, there was one feature we definitely missed on these goggles.

Keep reading to find out what and whether we’d recommend these goggles.

Target Line Snowboarding Goggles

Frame and Design

The Oakley Target Line features a full-frame design with an oversized cylindrical lens inspired by Sutro sunglasses. And they absolutely make a statement.

Overall, these goggles give a needed upgrade to the typical full-frame designs that every brand is putting out. And this is emphasized by the Target Line’s oversized lens that provides tons of coverage. Plus, Oakley flattened the brow-line of the Target Line to increase compatibility with helmets, despite the lens size.

The frame itself is made of flexible O Matter material that helps these goggles conform to your face even in cold conditions. This also helps to make the Target Line lightweight and comfortable for all-day ski sessions.

Plus, the Target Line features prescription eyewear compatibility thanks to discreet notches inside these goggles. That means you can comfortably wear your eyeglasses in these goggles without fogging or discomfort.

When we first put on the Target Line, we found the fit snug but not too tight. And despite the large taller lens on these goggles, we had no issues wearing them all day with our helmet on.

Key Features

  • Triple-layer face foam with moisture wicking fleece for all-day comfort
  • Optically correct Dual Lens with F3 Anti-fog coating
  • Prescription eyewear and helmet compatibility
  • Available with Oakley High Definition Optics that protect against 100% of UVA, UVB and UVC rays

Strap, Face Foam and Comfort

In addition to the O Matter frame and sleek design, the Target Line also packs plenty of innovation in the comfort department.

First, these goggles feature a 40mm adjustable strap with a silicone lining. This is pretty standard for the Medium-sized (XM or M) Oakley goggles, but regardless it still works great. Unlike other goggles we’ve tried, the Oakley straps are comfortable and tight without causing headaches or pain.

Next, the Target Line goggles include triple-layer face foam with a moisture-wicking fleece lining to keep you warm and sweat-free.

During our review, it was well into the teen temperatures (Fahrenheit), and our eyes stayed warm all day thanks to these goggles. So overall, we’d say the Target Line delivers on comfort!

Lens Technology

The Target Line goggles are one of the only Oakley goggles that don’t include Prizm lenses. While the rest of the Oakley lineup features great lenses like Prizm Snow Sapphire or Jade, the Target Line only features standard lenses.

These standard lenses still feature High Definition Optics (HDO) and are made of impact-resistant Plutonite lens material. But still, we couldn’t help comparing them to the Prizm lenses we love and feel like something was missing. For us, it’s easy to say Prizm snow lenses definitely win this competition!

If you don’t mind Oakley’s standard lenses like Fire Iridium, the Target Line is still a great pair of Oakleys. But if you’re looking for the latest and great technology, you’ll want to look at other Oakley goggles.

Small (Youth Fit), Medium (XM) & Large (XL) Target Line Size Comparison

The Target Line is available in 3 sizes – Small, Medium, and Large. And while you can only find the medium and large fit directly from Oakley, the Youth Fit Target Line is readily available online.

For reference, you can find the quick size listing and translation between previous lineups below:

  • Youth Fit (Previously known as Target Line Small)
  • Medium (Previously known as Target Line XM)
  • Large (Previously known as Target Line XL)

We wore a pair of Medium size Target Line goggles for our review and found the fit perfect. They were snug throughout the day without being too tight.

Generally, there is a 15-20% difference between each size in the Oakley goggle lineup. This means the Line Target Line L is about 15-20% larger than the Target Line M. And the Target Line L is approximately 30-40% larger than the Youth Fit.

Final Thoughts – Our Review and Recommendation

The Oakley Target line delivers with an oversized lens, comfortable design, and a wide range of sizes. But with Prizm lenses missing on these goggles, it’s tough for us to recommend these for everyone.

Instead, with a retail price of only ~$100, we’d recommend Oakley Target Line goggles for anyone looking for a relatively inexpensive pair of snow goggles. Otherwise, we’d recommend the Oakley Flight Deck or Line Miner goggles for the latest in Oakley innovation!

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Replacement Target Line Lenses Available?

Unfortunately, Oakley doesn’t sell Target Line replacement lenses anymore. Once again, this is a sign these goggles will be discontinued in the near future.

But you can still find replacement lenses online. With only a few minutes of searching, we found several retailers selling Oakley Target Line replacement lenses for under $50.

As these goggles slowly fade from Oakley’s lineup we’d expect replacement lenses to do the same. So, if you’re in the market for replacement Target Line lenses, we’d recommend buying them sooner than later!

Where to Buy Oakley Target Line Goggles?

You can buy Oakley Target Line goggles direct from their website (Product Link). And as we mentioned above, this is one of the most affordable Oakley goggles, with some colors priced under $100!
