Frame and Design

Our first impression looking when we picked up the Trillbe X is it seems to be a mix of the Gibston and Spindrift sunglasses.

The frame features a full rimmed O matter design that has rounded lenses and thin earstems. These features also help to make the frame super lightweight.

How lightweight are we talking?

21 grams. And this weight also helps to make the Trillbe comfortable for all-day wear.

Overall, the design of the Trillbe X works well for a lifestyle frame. It’s simple and classic with a modern feel.

You won’t find any real sports features like Unobtainium earsocks on this frame. But that makes sense since this is really an everyday wear type pair.

Keep reading as we review the size, dimensions, and lenses of the Trillbe X.

Size and Dimensions

The Trillbe X is a relatively small unisex frame for Oakley. Overall it’s a small size for men and medium size for women.

We’ve included the complete dimensions below:

  • Frame Width: 128 mm
  • Lens Width: 52mm
  • Lens Height: 43 mm
  • Bridge Width: 16 mm
  • Temple Length: 141 mm

Lenses

The Trillbe X is highlighted by its round lenses Plutonite lenses. As we’ve discussed before, Oakley Plutonite lenses provide impact resistance along with 100% protection from UVA, UVB, and UVC rays.

The sunglasses we reviewed included Prizm Sapphire lenses that added a pop of color to the polished clear frame. We’ve already discussed Oakley Prizm Technology, so we won’t go into too much detail here.

But the Prizm Sapphire lenses definitely stood up to the hype in this pair.

Currently, the lens lineup from Oakley features fun colors like Prizm Sapphire or Ruby Iridium which definitely make a statement.

If you’re looking for a more subtle look, you’ll likely want to look at other Oakley sunglasses that offer Prizm Black or Grey lenses.

Final Thoughts—Are they Worth It?

Let’s start by talking about what these sunglasses are not.

The Trillbe X is not a distinctly Oakley frame. It’s a general lifestyle frame made with some hints of Oakley’s patented technology like O Matter and Prizm lenses.

This is definitely a classic style but the lack of simple lens colors like Black makes it difficult to recommend this for a subtle pair of sunglasses.

Instead, we’d recommend the Trillbe X if you’re looking for a round lens design in a lightweight small frame that makes a statement.

Oakley Trillbe X vs Trillbe—What’s the Difference?

The Trillbe X has few things in common with its sibling the Trillbe sunglasses, but they are definitely different.

Why didn’t Oakley give the two frames, which came out in the same year, two different names? Who knows? But we’ll review the differences.

To start, the original has a single shield lens in a very modern frame compared to the smaller, double lens, traditional Trillbe X.

You can see the difference in the picture below.

You’ll also notice that the Trillbe is not available in prescription (like most single shield styles) but the Trillbe X can support a range of prescription lenses.

One key similarity between the two frames is the thin earstems that are identical on both. Along those lines, both frames are also made of O Matter material that makes them equally lightweight.

Overall, these are two distinctly different frames with the original Trillbe being a large flashy pair of sunglasses compared to the Trillbe X’s simpler round lens design.

Are Replacement Trillbe X Lenses Available?

Yes, but the answer is a bit more complicated.

Currently, Oakley doesn’t sell replacement lenses for the Trillbe X. But that doesn’t mean you’re out of luck.

You can still buy Oakley Trillbe X replacement lenses through aftermarket suppliers. Plus these suppliers often sell lenses for 50%+ cheaper than lenses direct from Oakley.
