It consists of two distinct pieces\u2014a helmet and goggles. But it\u2019s not your everyday helmet for biking or skiing, it\u2019s something\u2026else.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Introduced in 2002, the Medusa Helmet, made of leather and costing a hefty $500, looks an awful lot like something you would see at Burning Man. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Oakley was well aware that the Medusa would not appeal to most customers, but they wanted to stretch their experimental wings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pictures do exist of two single-piece prototypes of the Medusa, one rumored to be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oakleyforum.com\/guides\/oakley-founder-jim-jannard-interview\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">worn by Oakley founder Jim Jannard<\/a>. Making the combo retail for $750, a hefty price even today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Medusa was introduced and discontinued long before Oakley\u2019s 2014 \u201cDisruptive By Design\u201d advertising campaign, but certainly fit the bill. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It isn\u2019t entirely clear when the set was discontinued but both pieces were around to purchase new until at least 2008.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-oakley-medusa-helmet-and-goggles-review\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Oakley_Medusa_Helmet_and_Goggles_Review\"><\/span><strong>Oakley Medusa Helmet and Goggles Review<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-frame-and-design\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Frame_and_Design\"><\/span>Frame and Design<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The Medusa helmet is made of dark brown leather with pale stitched detailing. There are long, thick leather pieces of \u201chair\u201d tied with visible stitching to the back of the helmet, hence, one has to assume, the name Medusa. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The \u201chair\u201d is often referred to as dreadlocks but more closely resembles tubes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Medusa helmet was available in two sizes, a Small \/ Medium and a Large \/ Extra Large. The goggles snap onto the top and sides of the helmet. The goggles are bug-eyed with heavy, round, oversized leather framing with the same stitched detail as the helmet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The metal Oakley icon is on the center forehead of the helmet. The pair came in two sizes, small\/medium and large\/extra-large. The lenses are black, iridium coated and set far apart. There is no wrap, so peripheral vision is limited. The helmets are more common than the goggles, and to find a pair for sale you&#8217;ll need to look on aftermarket exchanges. Your top options are the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oakleyforum.com\/forums\/oakley-sunglasses-exchange.8\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Oakley Forum Exchange<\/a> area here or sites like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebay.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">eBay<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Be extra careful when shopping for either the Medusa helmet or goggles.
