I should Work at Oakley
Recently decided to bring my vintage-ish (30-ish year) setup a refresh, as well as bring it into the 21st century. Totally forgot to take a before picture, but the original setup was the Acram Alpha 7 CD Player, Alpha 8 Amp*, Cambridge Audio Dacmagic 100 on TV audio duty and B&W DM601 MK1 Speakers
Fancied giving it a bit more punch, so scoured eBay and scored very well priced Alpha 8 power Amp, pristine B&W 606 S2 Anniversary Edition Speakers and an ex-display B&W ASW608 Subwoofer. Cambridge Audio DAC replaced with a Wiim Ultra which whilst it's on TV audio duty, its primary use is a streamer playing tracks from my network attached storage (I don't subscribe to any streaming service, but they pretty all are installed). Repurposed an old Google Pixel Tablet to give me a good size display from which to browse my library.
Result is a much greater soundstage and separation in the treble and midrange zone, together with the low frequency punch of the sub (which is particularly good on movies.
(*Sentimental attachment - won in a What Hi-Fi competition in 1995, and have just enjoyed their first service!)
