Are the reissue eye jacket 1.0’s from 1999 still brittle?

I’m trying to get some eye jackets 1.0’s but don’t know if it is worth the coin (because I’m terrified of breaking them)

Are they really that brittle? Or is that just the early ones? Thank you!

You’ll want the “new” eye jackets. They were made of better plastic. The easiest way to tell a difference is the hinges. The left is the old brittle 1.0, NEJ or new eye jacket on the right. The MUZM, palace, and others are all NEJ as well

No they’re too weird for me and I have a big melon.. but I do have a few of them for collecting

SE Tennessee, hot and sticky to cold and dry. I have had no issues but I take good care of all my sunglasses. I also have a lot of them which means none are worn every day.

The NEJ are better than the first issue by far but they are still somewhat brittle. I have seen a few broken ones.

So unless you want to play the 'O Matter lottery', best not wear the O Matter up to 1998, but know, that even more recent generations, can still faulter.

Plastic becomes brittle with age, temp changes don't help, I suspect Omatter is not immune to this. Just be mindful of it and get at least two of your favorites!
