Boxes Artwork Question

Here is one for the experts: how come that certain ltd / special editions sometimes come in a box with artwork but that of exactly the same model / series in other cases they just come in a black box with the O-icon? Good example are e.g. Infinite Hero Fuel cells or Infinite Hero Split Jackets though it applies to loads more series/models.

p.s. makes you wonder where the good old signature/artist series have gone where it as guaranteed that you would get a special box with dedicated series/artist artwork on it .... Makes me feel old

Some of the original releases had the fancy boxes. When they didnt sell and got returned many were repackaged in generic boxes. Now everything is in a plain box... it sux!
