Just got some custom stands made thanks to two outstanding members of this forum. We all know that it's not JUST the product or price they have, but their speed of communication, production and postage. MOST IMPORTANT to me is their trustworthiness. And I can certainly vouch for these two guys.

I purchased a whole bunch of metal stands from @dingo ate my baby. I got them all polished up, so they look fantastic.

Dingo still has tons of them if you want them here.

Initially I was going to use them to display microfibre bags, but then decided to use some of them for stands.

@SiRacer420 3D printed the nosepieces in multiple colours. What's cool is that he also printed a raised 3D "O" logo and a skull logo on the supports as well!!

Check out the other incredible gear he 3D prints here!

And did I tell you that the translucent ones are luminous glow in the dark!!

They are screwed in with M4 8 mm bolts.

Review is after the pictures below.

Physical Weights and Dimensions
142 gm (original metal stand)
48 gm (metal stand and two 3D printed nosepieces)
22 gm (metal stand and two bolts)
Plastic nosepieces are 13 gm each!!! Super light.

As you can see from the pictures above, they are exact 3D moulded replicas of the original metal nosepieces. They even have the little raised "button" on the back to ensure that the nosepiece doesn't rotate on the stand.

It fits EXACTLY onto the Oakley stand.

Quality
Obviously, they're made of plastic, so will not be as tough as the metal replacement part. Having said that, it is difficult to break one in half with your bare hands (I tried). Of course, perhaps I'm just weak....

It would be more than able to adequately support the weight of a kilogram, I'd guess.

The finish is like a matte finish. It is not smooth like glass (presumably because of the way a 3D printer lays down the plastic). It's only slightly "rougher" in texture than the original metal nosepieces.

I was expecting some overhanging excess plastic parts, but there were none. I am unsure whether @SiRacer420 manually removed them or the printer is so good, that it doesn't produce any "wastage".

The semitranslucent "glow in the dark" nosepieces show the interior "cross hatching" pattern of how the plastic was laid down during manufacture. It may bother you. It's symmetrical and I like the look of it.

All of the nosepieces are the same. What I mean is, there is very little variation between pieces. I certainly couldn't detect any differences between pieces. They all slotted perfectly onto the stand.

Customisation
What is really cool about this is that you can select different colours to match the sunglasses you're putting on them! Here are the range of colours Jason can 3D print.

Additionally, you can choose to have a 3D printed "O" or a skull or any other raised relief on the tip of the nosepiece. I think you'd have to submit Jason a vector file to do this. You could even have your initials on the nosepiece, I guess!

Differences Compared to Original Part
Currently, I'm using them for supporting my X-metals. The plastic finish gives you piece of mind because X-metal on the original metal stand makes me concerned about scratches. The plastic are unlikely to scratch your X-metals. This is an excellent reason to use these stands.

Also, you can customise the colours. Jason has a few others that I didn't select.

One really cool colour is the "glow in the dark" colour. There was NO extra cost to select this colour!!

Challenges - Learn from MY Mistakes!
Depending on where you live, it may be hard to find the proper size bolts to fasten the nosepiece to the stand.

I live in Australia, so I had trouble finding imperial bolts. I tried using a rivet, but when it expanded, it actually broke one nosepiece.

Short bolts are hard to find, and I ended up going to a "fixture specialist" manufacturer to buy the bolts. I used M4 X 8 mm length bolts in the end. It would have been nice if they were a slightly tighter fit, but I didn't want to crack the plastic. It does the job fine, and I didn't have to use spacers to "pad" it out.

If you use imperial, use Everbilt #8 32 X 3/8 inch round head combo.

Just to be safe, bring a screwdriver and the set with you to test!

Dealing With Jason
As I alluded to at the beginning of this thread, it's not just about the product itself. I found Jason to be very responsive and open. He was willing to explain the process, pros and cons, and even accommodated my requests for some changes halfway through the job with no penalty or complaint.

He asked for payment AFTER he'd done the job. I mean. Who does that? I may not have paid. I may have asked for more before paying. I may have changed my mind. It had quite the opposite effect on me. He was willing to take my word at face value, so that definitely helps with online trust.

Also, he gave me extra stickers and even a unique keychain as a bonus. Here are the pictures. Don't expect as many as I got....unless you order as much as I did!!!

All of these things certainly make it very difficult for anyone to not recommend him highly to fellow Oakley collectors.

I wish you all the best in your business and family, Jason.

Thanks very much, from a very happy customer!!

Yeah that's what we were going for. A few people wanted it for Minute Machine washers in IH theme. It's sexy!

If I put it next to a yellow one it will a great LSU Tigers one!

As always, an excellent review covering everything!

These are a revision of nose pieces made by another forum member. I wanted to add the designs on the nose and after you suggested the button on the back I added that too. I did do a complete design from scratch of one but it ended up exactly the same so no point.

A few replies:

I can control the amount of infill thereby controlling the strength of the part. I arrived at what I did on these after printing a few and being able to snap them in half myself. I'm glad to know I wasn't the only one that immediately tried to do that lol

The amount of infill also determines the interior pattern, which can only be seen on glow in the Dark.

The only variations from piece to piece would be if something changed on the printer but I keep them all level so there should never be any differences. If you get some a year form now, they will be exactly the same.

I can add damn near any logo to anything really. It all depends on the image I start with, how much cleaning I have to do, and how small it needs to be. Images can also be engraved rather than embossed like these though results vary.

I wouldn't trust many people to make that much **** without at least a deposit but you're already a repeat customer lol and man of you word.

If you ever have issues with them or anything else I make, let me know and I'll fix it. That goes for everyone.
