E wire 1.0 prototype

Do those boxes go together? The corrugated E-Wire box is correct, but the prototype box is additional, and looks like an X-Metal or Magnesium inner box from later on in the 90's.
Pairs don't really come with multiple boxes unless they fit into each other, and it doesn't appear that is the case here.

My old E-Wire came with the same combo. A inner box with the same small metal plate, which is slid into the corrugated box. Only difference is that mine does not have the Prototype sticker!
Would be interesting to see the banderole with the type designation. Can you post a picture of that side of the box.
