Well Ikon lenses have now replied and it seems I owe them an apology.
My emails had somehow ended up in their spam folder.
They said it was not normal to see what I described and immediately offered to cut and send a replacement pair!
Great service after all

I will be sure to post my findings upon trying the replacements in a week or two.
