Homemade Display Case?

I need to practice welding aluminum. Seems a case like these O ones would be a fun project. Do you think it would look OK with welded aluminum instead of riveted, or could welded look sloppy(practice welding aluminum)? I'd probably still need some rivets(bolt heads) for the lexan. I am actually thinking it might cost just as much as the craigslist ones. but might be a bit fun too.

I know that its taller than it was wide. Don't know the exact dimensions. Hopefully someone can measure there's and chime in.

Maby I'm thinking too big.... I saw deep in one post that the shelf size was 14.75" squared 10mm thick. That makes the aluminum one much smaller than I imagine. I only have a few pairs so I dont want to make it too big and feel empty.
