How to replace ear socks on e wire?

Hi all, I am trying to replace the ear sock on my e wire. As I do not want to damage the original ear sock while removing them, I am finding it difficult remove. Does anyone have any tips?

Plenty of WD40, apply liberally under the rubber, then just slide off. Might want to apply some silicone grease to make them supple again.
