I always thought a porkpie had a round, flat, unshaped crown...

The common denominator about a porkpie is the narrow, up-turned brim. The crown type though can vary, flat, formed, indented-flat.

A trilby tends to have slightly wider, and flat front brim, narrowing on the sides, and a
narrowing further behind the crown and often upturned, the brim that is.
