Tried a bit of flexing to stress test .. Went badly as you guys predicted. Anybody have any ideas how to preserve the paint ? Will a clear coat over the paint help??

You have to find a paint for rubber that remains flexible. Clearcoat won't help imho.

Damn @Lupetto, I was hoping that cracking and peeling under stress and flex wouldn't happen for you. I don't think clear coat would help, just postpone the inevitable.

I realize I a late to the party here, but was searching for gaskets, and found this post. You could try using colored plasti-dip.

All good now. I sent it to zwc0442 and he properly sanded and applied paint. It's now perfect without any cracking and peeling.
