Your analogy is flawed. Companies PAY for specific product placement in stores to get more visibility. That’s why top/bottom shelf products exist in liquor, electronics, grocery stores and many more.
You're missing the point, but I will entertain the essence of yours...

Who sells the most? Thus, who attracts more buyers, which translates into traffic?

I know what you’re saying but anyone who ever worked in retail knows that manufactures pay more for stores to place their products on endcaps, eye level on shelves and bulk outs in isles. Sales don’t always drive product placement.

I understand that but that isn't the issue that the complainers here have brought up.

What they've specifically said, countless times, is that they don't want to drudge through listing after listing from the same seller. Well, I don't want to drudge through the entire store just for a box of ammo that's in the back of the store, but it ain't my store and life ain't fair...and it for damn sure isn't tailored just for me me me either!!!!

And the exchange isn't just tailored for the guy who wants to post 2 dozen threads in a row either. It does suck when you post a sale thread at 10:00 in the morning and by 10:15 you're hallway way down page 2 behind 1 persons threads. We're fortunate to have an outlet to sell our goods to people we know without having to deal with sh!theads on eBay, Offerup, etc. It's really not too tough to show a little courtesy to others.

On a slightly different vein, it would be nice not to get 29,444,783,002 notifications because someone is selling a bunch of stuff. I already asked whether I can mute an entire section, to no avail. For now, the ignore list grows.

But why are you getting those notifications? Have you replied to each of those threads or? Are you watching the entire forum / thread? Are you following those members? You don't auto get notifications unless you've either posted in that thread or followed the forum/thread
