Microchip on oakleys????

Err - I dont think unaware customers would be happy about their stuff being chipped. Its the first time I have heard of it, even though I have seen the chips and it didnt even register taht they were chips. I just thought it was perhaps a fixing pin for better bond between icon and stem.
 
Reminds me of the RFID tags you find under the insoles in certain shoes

i just found one of these hidden behind the ear of a pair of Oakley Gibson Special Editions.
i've owned these for over a year, and there was a red label there which just fell off a few weeks ago, today i was going to cleanup the indent where the label was located, and noticed this chip set into a plastic form to hold it in the indent securely. given the size, it couldnt be any more than a passive rfid chip, so could indeed be for warranty tracking or somesuch.
it was certainly a surprise.
