Heres a little throwback to put into perspective how big Oakleys were in the late 90's.
It was 1996 and The internet wasnt a part of our daily lives
Michael Jordan was the king of the world. Sponsored by all the biggest brands, including Oakley. Posters of him wearing Eye Jackets were plastered everywhere.
The youngest person to ever be drafted into the NBA had entered the draft. There was alot of talk about the 18 year old kid from Philly. History was being made and Kobe Bryant knew the cameras would be on him. He was young, fearless, and bold.
When he went to get his first rookie card made, he wanted everyone in the world to know that he wore the same shades as his basketball idol, the king, his air-ness, MJ.
He wasnt sponsored by Oakley.
He wasnt paid to wear those.
He wanted to be like Mike.
Everyone did.
