Pennys from HELL

Well

I found these polished Penny’s in the town where I work.
I went and looked at them, the lenses were shot, but the frames looked pretty good
I got them home, I always wanted the polished set with the ruby lens. I have a fetish for RED lens
I did some research online and found Oaklyonthespot.com
They had a custom cut Ruby lens for the penny, exactly what I was looking for.
This was sometime last summer like in June.

I got the lenses and started to disassemble the orbitals for installation :)
Well not so fast, the right orbital screw was stripped, Crap and other superlative's filled the room.
My wife walked in to see what was wrong. I had to explain the stripped t6 screw, she just smiled and walked away.

So after doing some research. I tried the rubber band trick, didn’t work, tried the larger T tool, and didn’t work.
Even tried epoxy. Didn’t work. I was at my wits end.
In frustration I put the lens and glasses on a shelf, they sat there for 6 months.

So 6 months later, I start getting frames ready to go to X man for work
My best friend has a set of Pennys I gave him for his birthday.
He was complaining that they didn’t fit tight and kept falling off.

So I thought, I’ll send his pair in with my Juliet’s and get the nose bridge tightened
After going through my stuff I discovered the old Pennys with the stripped orbital screw.
I hit up Mark (X Man) and asked if he had any ideas on getting it out. He replied that I shouldn’t mess with it, just send it in with the others, he would take care of it.

Got the glasses back from Mark, all looked good Nose bridge all tight, ready for new lens and new Linegear red rubber.
Well the lens wouldn’t fit, I couldn’t get the orbital to close and the screw tight.
Crap and other superlative's filled the room.

I immediately e mailed Oaklyonthespot, then started to ask for help here on the forums.
In doing so I discovered that Juvy (AKA ) OakleyontheSpot was a member here.

Juvy was able to assist me with sanding the lenses down to get them to fit
I have never done this before, but it seemed easy enough.
Well it took trial and error, but I got the lens to fit.

One other thing I learned
On the right orbital the screw didn’t want to screw all the way in.
I have never had an issue with screws in the past.
I have changed lenses on countless Juliet’s and XX with no problems.
So I went to my stash of spare parts.
I pulled out a bunch of T6 screws. I kept going through them till I found a screw that would close the orbital almost all the way with no lens.

Sorry it’s so long winded.

But here are some finished pics

There ya go!
Nice work on the lens fitting, glad that you got it done in the comfort of your home.
The X Man is a wizard!

Had a very similar situation on a similar pair, glad yours worked out as well. The x-man is awesome and they look great! (that stand is a little creepy) :behindsofa:

Glad you finally got it all sorted out.

Nice of salj838 to still help you with lenses bought so long ago.

Nice of x-man to take care of your stripped screw for you.
