R1 Beginnings

Just a thought but maybe the reason they opted for the straight stems in the movie was for the glasses to fit more snugly into the rocket tube, coupled with the custom earpiece. Had it been a Hammerstem arm the glasses would have been wider.

Good idea on the rocket tube - I was thinking they did it because maybe the hammerstem shape made it too hard to add the earphones and related wiring...

Cheers. They do look a very snug fit in there but could well have been a combination of a few things :)

late to the party but yeah, its been known that the Romeo in MI2 was a straight stem - however the fact that it has a Mars serial number on it, is news.
I was working in collaboration with dg_mods over a year ago to make replica add-ons to make romeos look like the MI pair. including false LED's that go into the hole.

The prop pair was probably made straight stem to fit better to Tom's face. He has a fairly small head, and hammers would stick out more. If anything hammer arms give a nicer space to add the false earpieces? and not sure about the rocket tube thing - they probably designed the tube around the frame, not made the frame to fit a specific tube?
