So. A top orbital rubber rotted and finally fell out. Problem is, I'm stuck in Jordan, and replacement gaskets are quite expensive anyhow. Postage here is both unreliable or expensive. Choose one undesirable option!!
Fortunately, "Necessity (to have a good looking pair of Romeo 1s) is the mother of invention", says Plato.
Here's my step by step method to the (nearly perfect) top orbital rubber replacement.
Step 1. Find pair of Romeo 1s which need a top rubber replacement.
Step 2a. Gather necessary tools ie. orbital T6? screwdriver, wife's manicure scissors, and uniball gel impact pen (or equivalent)
Step 2b (optional).
If you are long sighted (like me), you will need an additional piece of equipment ie. reading glasses, preferably in a Why 8 frame.
Step 3. Remove gel ink rubber grip from pen like so....
Remarkably, the texture, colour and thickness of the rubber grip is almost an EXACT match to OEM!
Step 4. Carefully cut out the replacement part using the lower gasket as a "template"
Step 5. Fold gasket in half and cut small slit (easier than actually trying to cut a hole). You could poison yourself with burning rubber fumes by heating up a paper clip and burning a hole through the middle.
Step 6. Force rubber over the top of exposed screw.
Step 7. Reassemble and voila! She's as good as factory!!!
Step 8. Throw a party because you did it!!
