SpecialAdvisor’s Mad Labs - Mars Leather Mods Plus

Allow me to introduce “My Precious’” Stunt Double, recently arrived from China. His name is Huǒshān kǒu. It’s his responsibility to test adhesives and be a crash test dummy for stitching.

Kidding aside, and before y’all go grabbing your torches and pitchforks, after careful consideration I decided to take a sheet from @Brian D’s book, I’ve bought a “Replica” so you don’t have to. Typically I don’t support the “replica” biz, but I had a few reasons for this one venture into Knockturn Alley (…aside from needing some flesh eating slug repellent). Mostly I could not bring myself to wave too many saddle needles at “My Precious” without some practice with a Crash Test Dummy. Same thing for testing adhesives.

That having been said, has anyone compared these frames side by side? I did a search did not get a hit. I’m probably not the right guy as I don’t have a Mars Jordan. Bottom line up front. Don’t waste your money.

But…first thing I noted was no split on the ocular in the usual place. The nub is there but no split thus no C-Ring. So one wonders if lens changes are even possible. The lenses seem flat but surprisingly are polarized. Stitching seems tight. Darn things feel heavy. The stems have a funny flare on the tips. First thing I plan to do is remove the leather…more later.

Attached Photos:
On the left is “My Precious” and on the right a very, Very, VERY distant…not even close to a relative (doppelgänger?).
Below is a sign I saw today about Oats which seemed to fit this post perfectly.

If you're diving into 3D modeling and template stamps, it's going to be a learning process, and as Cher said, sometimes things look great from a distance but take a closer look to see the magic. Don't hesitate to share your progress with pics; it's always fun to see the creative process in action.

Indeed! Many thanks for the link. I’ll check it out…never stop learning!

This one is a wrap…or will be tomorrow. That is a “lot” of Purple/Yellow-Gold in person. This is a display piece so I put it on a thick leather mat. I dyed it a nice cognac color for good measure.

I think “The Phantom” would approve of that color 🟣👍

This is kind of interesting…to me anyway. On the right is plain ole untreated veg tanned leather. On the left same but after a judicious application of and light buffing with good ole Skidmore’s Leather Cream which is basically plant oil and bee’s wax. I have a tendency to dye (my current favorite dye color is vintage Army Tan…no surprise there) or leather paint my own stuff. The cool thing about this is it will age and darken naturally with daily use. Hmm…🤔
