I'm curious, did you completely disassemble for frame and paint under the plates or was the paint directly applied without disassembly?

The plates are fairly easy to remove. Becasue it makes it easier to paint the frame in my opinion. The stem though stay on. Removing PB ear stems is not recommended in my opinion,
