The thing is, the new rules weren't just some spontaneous conjuring by Boss and the mods - they were meant to address long-standing complaints. And not all complaints are made publicly; only the mods know the big picture. Just because you personally don't see a problem doesn't mean there isn't a problem.

And the rules being debated here aren't rules for the entire forum, just the exchange section. This isn't an exchange forum with a discussion section. It's a discussion forum with an exchange section.

In general people resist change. But that doesn't mean a resisted change can't still be an improvement. Sometimes you gotta try something first and see how it works out.

For example, there was the recent change that resulted in more prolific and heavy-handed post deletion moderation. Boss has received feedback now and said it should be backed off. But at least it was tried and he's basing that decision on the results.

So should these. Try them out, observe the results, formulate the go-forward plan based on the results, not everybody's pre-implementation opinion.

Many medical methodologies set back in the '70s (for example) were based on hypothesis, as in "this is a problem so that should be done about it". If that's all there was to it, those methodologies would still be followed today. Instead, enough time has passed that the long-term effectiveness of those methodologies can be evaluated, and a number of them have proven to just be inaccurate, based on the results. So they've been dropped.

Remove the subjectivity and replace it with objectivity.

Appreciate it - yeah that pretty much sums it up - Have had complaints in the past- The Mod team and myself worked hard on solutions - Obviously 16,000 heads are better than 10 so we've gotten some great feedback out of this! Ultimately the forum voted (see poll) and I respect that. Working with the Mod team now to adjust accordingl
