For years I was told VR stood for Vermillion. For the past 2 years, it's been Violet Rust. So, if Oakley says its Violet Rust, it's Violet Rust. Violet Rust. End of story
 
Vermilion Red as the OP stated seems to be the correct name. That's what I've been told a few times, although one person did throw the "rust" in there I always just assumed that the consensus of Vermilion Red was the proper term. All I know for sure is I love pretty much all the iterations of VR...
Just put some VR28 black in a x metal Juliet and it looks MUCH better than I would've ever guessed. My new go to pair actually.
