Ghost tour/dinner last night. My valentines gift from my wife
Our room at the Gunter
The Alamo.
Inside the Haunted Menger. The “new” lobby
The Haunted Menger bar has not been changed since the 1870’s. Teddy Roosevelt stayed at the hotel 3 times and would recruit young men at the bar to join the Rough Riders. He is said to be seen here.
The elevator at the Menger keep coming down and opening but no one was getting on or off.
The King Ranch Room. Belonged to Richard King who owned the King Ranch here in Texas. He died in the room and is said to haunt it.
The actual bed where Richard King died.
King Ranch room. The folks that were staying in the room graciously let us in to see the bed.
The Alamo. The church which is the iconic portion that everyone recognizes was ordered to be destroyed by Santa Anna. Legend has it, that when the men got there to carry out the orders they were confronted by 6 hooded figures that appeared out of no where with flaming swords, who warned them not to touch this place. They reported back to Santa Anna who ordered even more soldiers to go destroy it. They were met by the same hooded figures and refused to do it.
San Fernando Cathedral is the oldest operating Catholic Church in North America. Jim Bowie was Married here, and some of the defenders of the Alamo’s remains are buried inside the walls.
The masonry is said to contain images of different things like skulls and people.
The original entrance was much bigger as you can see.
The doors are not original but replaced and replicated the originals back in the 1800s. It was built in the mid 1700’s. The Spanish crest above the door is dated 1749.
The Spanish Govonors palace was home to the Perez family for many generations. Mrs Perez was brutally beaten to death in front of her daughter. Her spirit can sometimes be seen here through this window kneeling at the alter, though it was rented out for a wedding this evening.
