Looking at an Genuine X Squared frame the Flex Coupler Pins are flush as it is actually a grub screw with a hex head. On these they look like protruding Juliet/XX/Mars Pins.

They also appear to be a flathead.

Allot of people have a problem with the shorter ear stem poking them in just the wrong spot behind the ear causing headaches, me being one of those people. The width of my head is huge to, I don't wear temple shox in my XX but that trick didnt work for me with the XS so I sold them all and bought more XX. Moral of the story... XX is better
