Frame Prep/Painting

I'm looking to get my toes wet in the DIY/Modding scene and would like to start with a Flak Jacket frame to complement the lonely set of flak lenses I currently have.

I was big into plastic model cars a while back and still have a wealth of supplies from that phase. I was wondering if roughly the same prepping and painting techniques used in the model car world could be applied to oakley painting. Wih model cars it was always dubbin alcohol to remove greases and then a light sand followed by many very light dustings of spray paint. I was never advanced enough to trust myself with an airbrush, so I still have a good deal of hobby paints in both brush and spray. Does anyone have any experience using the tamiyas and other hobby brands on oakley?

One last thing, if anyone has a beater pair of flak frames they'd like off their hands, let me know!

Thanks,
Zoah
